Distance Learning Collaboration

Monday, August 3, 2020

Well... HELLO August!

Please tell me I am not the only one tossing and turning at night thinking about things that are important for the start of the school year and sometimes the smallest petty detail EVER!
But for some reason... I am thinking details really matter right now.

I work in Harlingen for Harlingen CISD and we are definitely putting in the work for a safe return September 8th.
As an assistant principal (as I am sure 99% of educators) I am feeling a little overwhelmed but excited at the same time. I have to admit I was already familiar and using Seesaw for PLCs and showcasing best practices on our campus but I was not familiar what so ever with Google Classroom, Google Slides and all the ins and outs of that!

With that being said I have to say THANK YOU to all the educators out there taking the plunge and learning so much this summer on your own time and your own will!
THANK YOU! Thank you for also posting your how to videos on TIK TOK, Youtube, Instagram, and Facebook Groups.  I am a visual learner so that has been a huge help. I decided to share my journey of learning for 2020-2021 :D

First Lesson Learned: Remove your background!
I have always used Powerpoint to remove backgrounds on images or make the background tranparent... but I love learning multiple ways of doing a task.
For this image I went to  remove.bg, uploaded the first picture, and BOOM the second photo was generated.  I initially chose this image because I wanted students to see a picture of me with my mask on and then I will also upload an image of me without my mask. :D

What will I do with this you say... Well It is going to be good practice for our students whom we have not built a relationship with this year to see our faces as much as possible.

Second Lesson Learned: GIF Yourself

Let me just say I am familiar with GIFS but not creating a GIF or making myself into a GIF... I was curious how it was different from a shorter boomerang but like everything else... let's find out what it's all about.
Super simple, Download Giphy App on your device or on your computer go to gifmaker.me.
On the app you can record your gif or upload an image and add stickers to it. It will save on your device and then you can email yourself for easy upload.
For gif maker you can have so much more fun.  You can add multiple images to create a short animation, you can upload a video and create from there... Check out my creations! :D
